Feb 1 2020

Eventing is a sport governed by several sets of Rules.

The FEI (International Rules) sets the standard for international competition in each country, and Canada’s National Rules Committee develops rules that apply to national competition here. As such, our National Rules are largely parallel to the FEI Rules. Canada’s rules are published on the Equestrian Canada website for use by all equestrians, with general rules appearing in Section A and eventing-specific rules in Section D.  Revisions are made on a regular basis and input is welcomed by riders, trainers, officials throughout the year.

The Ontario Eventing Association will be publishing summaries of some of the significant rule changes in place for 2020 to assist competitors. It is the responsibility of each competitor to know the Rules. Coaches who take students to competitions should also be well versed in the current Rules, the onus is on the competitor (regardless of age) to know the Rules.  If anyone is uncertain about the interpretation of the Rules, they are always welcome to discuss them with any of the officials on the day of the event.  Officials are accredited by the National Committee and it is their duty to run an event according to the Rules. The EC website must be checked throughout the year for updates that have been posted. Rules can be downloaded to devices or printed out and should always be on hand for review.

Section D for the rules for Eventing can be found here
