What Memberships Do I Need to Compete?

To compete at recognized Events in Ontario you will need three (3) memberships. Application forms for mail and fax membership orders are available here.

  1. Equestrian Canada Sport Licence (Bronze, Silver or Gold) – Purchased via  Equestrian Canada
  2. Ontario Equestrian (OE) Membership – Purchased via the Ontario Equestrian
  3. Ontario Eventing Association (OEA) Membership – Purchased in conjunction with your Ontario Equestrian Membership, or on a Day Membership Basis

At training level or higher, your horse must have an Equestrian Canada Digital Horse Recording – Obtained via Equestrian Canada

RIDERS FROM OTHER PROVINCES:

If you are a member in good standing of another Provincial Sport Organization, Provincial Horse Trials Association, and hold the appropriate Equestrian Canada Sport Licence and Horse Recording, you may compete in an Ontario event, but you are not eligible to accumulate points towards year-end awards or qualify for yearly championships if they are held.

If you wish to compete, accumulate points and be eligible for year-end awards, or take part in any of the OEA programs such as the Young Rider/Under 25 Program, then you must hold a current OEA membership. Only residents of Ontario are covered by the liability insurance provided by an Ontario Equestrian membership, so instead you will be required to show proof of a current membership with the Provincial Sport Organization in your province of residence before you will be permitted to purchase an Ontario Eventing Association membership. This cannot be done through the online membership portal on the Ontario Equestrian website, but must be done by contacting Taylor Cornwell directly at the OE Membership office at 1-877-441-7112  ext. 13 or by email at t.cornwell@ontarioequestrian.ca.

RIDERS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES

Riders from other countries are welcome to compete in EC sanctioned National events in Ontario, provided they hold all current memberships that are required to compete in their country of residence plus proof that they hold some form of liability insurance. They are not, however, eligible to accumulate points towards year-end awards or qualify for yearly championships if they are held.

Canadian Pony Club members may compete at any level for which they meet the minimum requirements. Pony Club members will not be eligible for points collection, year-end awards, or participation at championships.

To participate in this program, simply fill out the OEA Day Membership form when entering an event, and indicate which Pony Club you are a member of on the form.  You may do this 3 times during the competition season. Link to Day Membership Form
